Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard
Microsoft Windows has now been established as the Standard on the computer market for around thirty years and is used not only by private individuals but also in development and research. In addition to the usual version of Microsoft Windows, the user also has the so-called server version at his disposal: Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard. This article explains exactly what this software is and where it can be used.
What exactly is Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard and what can the software be used for?
Microsoft Windows Server is an operating system for a computer manufactured by Microsoft. It is a so-called server operating system, which allows the user to set up and monitor a server. The operating system itself is usually installed on a computer which acts as a server and has to configure a large number of connections to other computers or devices. Since the 2012 version, Microsoft Windows Server has also been adapted to touchscreens so that no additional monitor or mouse and keyboard need to be connected to the server itself. Furthermore, Microsoft Windows Server can also be installed as a pure core version. This means that a graphical user interface is not available and all input has to be done via the terminal. This type of installation is mostly useful for advanced users.
Among other things, Microsoft Windows Server also has the Task Manager, which allows the monitoring and control of all processes that are currently active on the server.
This operating system is not only suitable for creating a server to host a website, but also for creating a cloud in a larger company or for creating a server that is accessible to a group of people in a larger company so that files can be stored there. The more powerful the server itself is, the more requests it can handle and the faster the uploading and downloading of files.
How is Microsoft Windows Server installed on the computer?
The installation can be done either from a CD or from a USB stick. To do this, the CD is inserted into the computer, the computer should immediately recognize the installation and start it. If this is not the case, the CD must be given priority in the BIOS so that the computer does not immediately boot from the hard disk. A wizard guides the user through the installation, which can take up to an hour. After the installation is complete, a reboot is performed and Microsoft Windows Server is ready for use.
What are the computer requirements for Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard to work?
The computer should have a processor with a clock speed of at least 1.4 GHz and support 64-bit operations. In addition, at least 512 MB of RAM is required, whereby a higher RAM or better processor clocking can significantly accelerate the system's work. Likewise, about 32 GB of hard disk space is required, whereby an SSD can also accelerate the work of Microsoft Windows Server. For the connection to the network, an Ethernet adapter is also required, which is usually already built into the hardware.
